OIBRS Reports
The Ohio Incident-Based Reporting System (OIBRS) is Ohio's version of the National Incident-Based Reporting System (NIBRS). OIBRS is a voluntary crime reporting program in which Ohio law enforcement agencies can submit crime statistics directly to the state and federal government in an automated format. This process has replaced the Summary UCR reporting process in many areas of the state.
Beginning in 2005, OCJS researchers began generating research briefs using OIBRS data. The purpose was two-fold. First, because the data is much richer than what can be obtained with Summary UCR data, OIBRS data allows for an in-depth analysis of crime, victims, and offenders. Second, generating reports from OIBRS allows OCJS to demonstrate the utility of OIBRS from a research perspective rather than from a data collection perspective.
