Meet Our Team

Sarah Shendy, M.S.

For over 11 years, I have served as an officer with the Copley Police Department. With this agency, I have facilitated the D.A.R.E. program for grades 6th through high school. I have had the honor of facilitating community-oriented events such as Shop with a Cop and drug education opportunities for parents and teachers via the Hidden in Plain Site program. Before my career in law enforcement, I worked as a corrections officer in Cuyahoga County. I have earned both a bachelors and master's degree in criminal justice focusing my studies on global issues and juvenile justice. Because of my cultural and religious knowledge and background, in Muslim and Middle Eastern populations, I had the honor to serve as the department's Terrorism Liaison Officer.

In 2012, I designed and facilitated a training for law enforcement officers and other public service employees on more effective ways to interact with Middle Eastern populations. This course includes a large segment on the Muslim religion, and continues to be utilized as a training resource here in Ohio, and replicated in other states.

In 2014, I was one of sixteen members elected by former Attorney General Mike DeWine to serve as a panelist evaluating the training, certification, and advancement of law enforcement officers in the State of Ohio. I also served as a Subject Matter Expert for the Community Diversity and Procedural Justice Committee with the Ohio Peace Officer Training Academy.

I have a passion for mental health issues within our communities, and I currently serve as a Mental Health First Aid instructor and co-chair the Attorney General's Task Force on Criminal Justice and Mental Health. We look forward to working with you all, in whatever capacity you need, to ensure that your agency recruits the best law enforcement officers in Ohio.
